Obesity today is reality in the various parts of the world and especially in the western countries where it has spread like an epidemic. The victims of obesity are not only adults and elders but even children and youngsters and their numbers are increasing with the forward movement of time. Weight loss diets have been considered to be an effective means of leading to considerable weight loss.
The optimal diet is also popularly referred to as the optimal nutrition diet and it is a prevalent weight loss diet which constitutes the consumption of high proportions of fats with lower carbohydrate intake. In fact the optimal nutrient diet makes use of sufficient proportions of proteins, fats and carbohydrates in a certain ratio. A lot of emphasis has also been given to the consumption of egg yolks, pork meat, lards, butter and bone stocks as an effective part of this diet to ensure weight loss. The optimal nutrient diet was conceived by a doctor named Jan Kwasniewski and it has been used in Poland from the early 1970s. But in recent times, this optimal nutrient diet gained worldwide acceptance with increased publicity which was facilitated by the publications of Kwasniewski himself. The optimal nutrient diet ensures greater consumption of fat foods while the protein consumption is also relatively lower compared to the various other low carbohydrate weight loss diets. As a part of the optimal nutrient diet, it is always necessary to bear in mind that all the food groups, whether fats, proteins or carbohydrates, they should all be consumed according to the measurements as dictated in terms of a ratio in order to achieve best results. It is also to be noted that the optimal nutrient diet rests a lot of importance on the nutritional value of the food items so consumed and therefore protein consumption is highly important in case of this diet as it substitutes the carbohydrates. Starchy carbohydrates are absolutely not recommended as they will escalate glucose formation and therefore milky carbohydrates composed of galactose and fructose are most commonly used. Salt consumption is low and almost negligible and not recommended by Kwasniewski as a part of this optimal nutrient diet for weight loss. According to Kwasniewski the ratio of protein, carbohydrate and fat consumption as a part of this diet includes the consumption of 80% fats, 8% carbohydrates and 12% proteins. Different kinds of animal fats, butter, lards, nuts, berries and fruits are included as a part of the optimal nutrient diet.
