The origin of the Montignac diet may be traced in Europe and it gained a lot of popularity during the 1990s. The Montignac diet was conceptualized by Michel Montignac and his primary method was to ensure safe and long lasting weight loss. obesity can have produce various adverse effects on the body and can immensely risk an individual into contracting different grave ailments like heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Therefore in order to facilitate weight loss, the consumption of these bad carbohydrates should be avoided greatly along with the consumption of fats. The Montignac diet usually comprises of two major phases. In this first phase the main purpose is to ensure weight loss and for this purpose carbohydrates having a glycemic index below 35 are considered suitable for consumption. Along with these carbohydrates, sufficient amounts of proteins should also be consumed. These proteins may be obtained from various sources like legumes and fish which play a great role in escalating weight loss. The second phase of the Montignac diet is more concerned with stabilization and protection of the body. The Montignac diet has been quiet popular in Europe and Michel Montignac has also written various books giving different accounts of the diet program and its significance apart from incorporating certain prominent recipes which may be consumed by those undertaking this diet. Montignac also ensures that an individual should not skip meals in order to ensure weight loss and should continue having limited proportions of snacks after shorter durations. However, there have been several detractors to this diet pattern though it has not affected its popularity.
